Job Title: Labourer (12 Positions)

Reports To: Foreman, Water Distribution
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (24 months)

Job Purpose
To provide general labour and support services within the Distribution Department for the repair and maintenance of water infrastructure across designated distribution facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Maintenance
- Repair network defects, including pipe bursts (major and minor), either independently or as part of a team.
- Repair valves and attend to water supply issues following standard procedures.
- Conduct excavations to access mains and valves for repairs.
- Assist with temporary road reinstatements and backfilling after repairs.
- Investigate leakages and assist in determining causes for lasting solutions.
- Maintain tools in good, clean condition and ensure safe handling.
- Dewater and de-weed chambers, both inside and outside.
- Load and unload materials for transport to work sites.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor.
Safety, Health, and Environment
- Adhere to safety and good health practices at all work sites.
- Participate in reinstating the environment after work, ensuring minimal disruption.
- Report hazards, concerns, and material usage after each job.
- Support temporary reinstatements after completing works.
Reporting
- Track materials used and report any supply needs.
- Keep the Foreman informed of concerns or issues on site.
- Report observed hazards promptly.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Experience
- No formal qualification required; however, hands-on experience in construction, water utilities, trenching, or general labouring is essential.
- Ability to follow instructions, work in teams, and adhere to safety standards.
- Physically fit, capable of performing heavy manual work.
- Comfortable working outdoors, at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, especially during emergencies or service disruptions.
- Experience in the water or sanitation sector is an added advantage.
