Background of the WeRise Initiative
The WeRise campaign is a dynamic and strategic initiative focused on advancing the right to peaceful assembly. It empowers civil society actors—activists, organisers, and movement builders—to creatively address and overcome systemic barriers to civic engagement and dissent.
Following the successful implementation of the first WeRise Cohort, CIVICUS is now preparing to onboard its second cohort, comprising 15 new members from four regions. These individuals and groups will co-develop and implement community-driven campaigns aligned with the CIVICUS Freedom of Peaceful Assembly (FoPA) framework.
The onboarding event is designed to:

Cultivate a shared vision and commitment among new WeRisers.

Foster trust, solidarity, and meaningful connections across the cohort.

Align local campaign efforts with global strategic goals under the WeRise framework.
Scope of the Consultancy
CIVICUS is seeking a qualified and experienced facilitator to lead this onboarding event and ensure a powerful, participatory experience. The consultant will work in close collaboration with the CIVICUS team and new WeRisers to:

Design a vibrant, inclusive agenda.

Facilitate interactive and engaging sessions.

Cultivate a sense of shared purpose, strategic alignment, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities

Co-create the event agenda in partnership with CIVICUS and the WeRisers.

Facilitate daily sessions that encourage active participation and engagement.

Apply diverse facilitation techniques to promote dialogue, collaboration, and trust.

Guide strategic discussions to refine cohort-led activities and foster innovation.

Produce a comprehensive post-event report with insights, outcomes, and feedback analysis.
Deliverables

A finalised onboarding agenda, developed collaboratively with CIVICUS and the cohort.

Successful facilitation of the onboarding event.

A detailed post-event report, capturing key learnings, participant engagement, and actionable recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should demonstrate:

A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field.

Proven experience in facilitating community-building and civic engagement workshops.

Familiarity with activist communities and human rights movements, particularly in the Global South.

Proficiency in interactive facilitation methodologies and participatory design approaches.

Experience working with diverse and multilingual groups.

Excellent communication skills in English (the primary language for facilitation).

A strong ability to foster trust, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
