Partners In Health (PIH) is launching a multi country TB study to generate an evidence on the TB response approach called Research to Enhance Screening Outcomes in Lesotho and Vietnam to End TB (RESOLVE TB). The study will be conducted in Lesotho and Vietnam. The RESOLVE TB study will address knowledge gaps in efforts to search for, treat, and prevent (STP) tuberculosis (TB) and post-TB sequelae by leveraging robust community TB screening programs and partnerships with TB treatment programs in Lesotho and Vietnam. RESOLVE-TB is supported by generous anonymous donors at Partners In Health (PIH) and implemented in collaboration with PIH-Lesotho, Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, FIT (Vietnam), and national TB programs.

The organization further has the N2 Project that focuses on essential investments aimed at improving the safety, functionality, and dignity of PH-supported health facilities to enhance the delivery of quality patient care. The initiative seeks to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and operational systems in alignment with the One Strategic Plan, specifically contributing to Pathway 1: Building Resilient Health Systems. Through these investments, the project aims to create safe, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare environments that support sustainable health outcomes and resilient service delivery.

The organization is therefore seeking suitably qualified and competent candidates to fill the following positions in the RESOLVE and NNP2 Projects:

Based at the Botšabelo MDR-TB Hospital, the Oxygen Plant Operator is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and routine maintenance of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) medical oxygen plants to ensure continuous production of medical-grade oxygen compliant with international healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate PSA oxygen plants according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for startup, shutdown, and emergency operations.
  • Monitor and control plant parameters including pressure, oxygen purity, flow rate, temperature, compressor performance
  • Ensure oxygen purity meets medical-grade oxygen standards (typically ≥93% ±3%).
  • Ensure uninterrupted oxygen production to support hospital clinical services.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections and operational checks using standardized plant monitoring tools. Monitor alarms, indicators, and system diagnostics to detect operational abnormalities.
  • Report deviations in purity, pressure, or system performance to the Biomedical Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure quality control testing of oxygen purity using oxygen analyzers.
  • Safely fill oxygen cylinders using approved cylinder filling manifolds and compressors.
  • Ensure cylinders meet safety requirements before filling.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of cylinder filling cycles and batch production logs.
  • Ensure filled cylinders are properly labeled, sealed, and stored according to safety guidelines.
  • Maintain separation of empty cylinders, filled cylinders, cylinders under maintenance
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks as per maintenance schedules including cleaning filters, checking valves and pipelines, inspecting compressors, monitoring moisture traps and dryers.
  • Assist biomedical engineers and technicians in scheduled servicing and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain maintenance logs and report potential equipment failures.
  • Ensure compliance with medical gas safety standards and hospital engineering policies.
  • Follow strict protocols for handling high-pressure oxygen systems.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage, and transport of oxygen cylinders.
  • Maintain fire safety protocols and ensure that oxygen areas remain free from oil, grease, or combustible materials.
  • Ensure all personnel handling cylinders use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain accurate daily records including oxygen production volumes, cylinder filling records, plant operational parameters, equipment performance logs
  • Record and report any alarms, malfunctions, or safety incidents.
  • Submit daily and weekly reports to the Biomedical Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper organization of oxygen production areas, cylinder storage areas, equipment rooms.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation and safe working conditions within the oxygen plant facility.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • There will be frequent travel to all PIH supported Lesotho sites, including rural initiative facilities, as well as other responsibilities that may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Plant Operations.
  • 2 years’ experience working in Oxygen plants, Biomedical equipment systems, Industrial gas systems, Mechanical or electrical plant operations
  • Understanding of PSA oxygen plant systems.
  • Basic knowledge of compressed gas safety standards.
  • Ability to monitor gauges, interpret operational indicators, and troubleshoot basic technical issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Fluency in English and Sesotho
