Position Summary
The National University of Lesotho invites applications from highly qualified candidates for the role of Associate Professor/Professor in the Department of Soil Science and Resource Conservation. The successful applicant will contribute to teaching, research, student mentorship, and fundraising through grant writing. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic to lead and expand soil and water management research and education in Lesotho.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Ph.D. in Soil Science with specialization in Soil and Water Management, Hydrology, or Irrigation Management
- Demonstrated ability to develop research proposals and secure extramural grants
- Strong experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Join Now- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research and thesis work
- Source and manage external research funding
- Collaborate with national, regional, and international partners on agricultural and environmental research
- Conduct and publish original research
- Teach and mentor in the following areas:
- Basic Pedology
- Soil Ecology & Biogeochemistry
- Waste Management
- Land Tillage & Agricultural Water Management
- Soil Physics & Eco Climatology
- Soil Erosion & Sediment Control
- Engage in university governance and contribute to academic citizenship
Work Experience
- Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Proven publication record in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Experience with international research, education, or development projects
- At least 3 years of post-doctoral research experience
Contract Duration
- Two-year renewable contract, based on:
- Performance in securing grants
- Effective mentorship
- Quality teaching
Expected Start Date: January 2026
Remuneration
- Competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Employment Type:
- Permanent and pensionable for locals
- Contract and gratuity-based for non-locals
