Job Summary

Maryland Health Centre is seeking a qualified and experienced Nurse Clinician to undertake both clinical and administrative duties at the health facility. The incumbent will be responsible for triaging patients in the Outpatient Department, managing staff, coordinating health-related activities, and assisting medical officers as needed.

Reporting Structure

• Direct Supervision: Primary Health Care Coordinator / Director, PHN

• Technical Supervision: Medical Officer

• Administrative Oversight: PHN

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the health centre

• Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients, families, and staff

• Monitor attendance of staff as per the duty roster

• Conduct performance appraisals of supervised staff

• Participate in budgeting processes with the health centre manager and bookkeeper

• Ensure the security and accountability of facility assets and supplies

• Maintain accurate community and facility population profiles

  
  
  

• Engage with both formal and informal community structures

• Initiate and coordinate all health-related community activities

• Interpret and apply relevant legal frameworks, including the Constitution of Lesotho

• Conduct community health assessments and research initiatives

  
  
  

• Maintain complete and up-to-date statistical and activity documentation

Clinical Duties

• Assign daily duties to staff in line with job descriptions

  
  
  

• Diagnose and manage medical and surgical conditions for adults and children

• Provide reproductive and sexual health services

• Deliver health education and outreach within the catchment area

• Refer patients beyond the facility’s scope to appropriate hospitals

• Supervise and support the work of community health workers

• Issue short-term medical sick leave (up to 5 days)

  
  
  

• Perform all duties within the nursing professional scope as assigned

Authorities and Powers

• Supervise unit attendants, nursing assistants, registered nurses, and registered midwives

Professional Requirements

• Must be registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council with proof of current subscription

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in General Nursing, Midwifery, and Nurse Clinician training

  
  
  

• A minimum of two years’ experience in a Nurse Clinician role
