Position: Senior Statistician
Grade: H
Reports To: Chief Statistician
Number of Posts: 1 (One)
Position Summary
The Senior Statistician will support the implementation of socio-economic statistical activities, oversee data management and analysis related to labour, education, and judiciary statistics, supervise staff, contribute to capacity building, and manage the sectional budget. The role involves leading data quality assurance, statistical modeling, and alignment with international statistical standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Implementation of Sectional Activities

Develop and implement work plans for socio-economic data operations
-
Supervise field data collection and ensure accuracy and quality
-
Coordinate integration of data across divisions and monitor progress
-
Allocate tasks, conduct spot checks, and submit progress reports
2. Statistical Information Management
-
Apply international statistical standards (ISIC Rev4, ISCO 2008, ISCED 11)
-
Lead methodology development, data validation, and modeling
-
Manage labour, education, and judiciary statistics databases
-
Analyze data and ensure consistency across statistical reports
3. Supervision of Staff
-
Provide guidance and leadership to statisticians
-
Create and oversee annual work plans
-
Review staff performance and identify training needs

4. Staff Training and Development

Organize and facilitate training sessions

Keep staff informed about emerging statistical practices

Encourage knowledge-sharing and mentorship
-
Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness
5. Budget Management
-
Prepare annual budgets for statistical operations
-
Monitor resource utilization and propose cost-effective measures
-
Justify budget needs and prepare expenditure reports
Minimum Requirements
๐ Education and Experience
Option 1:
-
Masterโs Degree in Statistics, Economics, Demography, or Agricultural Economics
-
Minimum 2 years experience in labour market and socio-economic statistics
Option 2:
-
Bachelorโs Degree in the same fields
-
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
๐ Technical Expertise
-
Proven experience in statistical data collection, ISIC/ISCO coding, and analysis
-
Knowledge of Labour Market statistics and ICLS Resolutions
-
Proficiency in STATA, SPSS, or similar tools
-
Experience in supervising and mentoring statistical staff
-
Understanding of data confidentiality policies and national frameworks

Familiarity with international statistical methodologies
