1.0 JOB SUMMARY

Under the leadership of Director Student Affairs, the Student Welfare Officer will be in charge of orientation, student discipline, student governance, leadership programmes and welfare of students staying off campus and other support services to meet the diverse needs of the student body such as disability support services, international student services and community service

2.0 JOB REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Education: Masters of Social Work, MA in Sociology, Psychology, Educational Psychology or any equivalent related field.
2.2 Work experience: Three years’ experience in directly serving students or large populations in recognised institutions.

3.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1 To provide educational support in a flexible manner to enrolled students regardless of age, stage and background
2.2 To work with faculties and students to provide peer support opportunities.

2.3 To facilitate the transition of all new students, first year, transfer and graduate students into the institution.

2.4 To improve student retention by providing a clear and cogent introduction to the institution’s academic community.

2.5 To educate students and community at large (including parents) on university rules and regulations.

2.6 To intervene any conflict in which a student is involved (student vs. student, faculty vs. student, and staff vs. student).

2.7 To administer disciplinary process in a manner that respects the due process rights of students while maintaining the integrity of the University.

2.8 To provide safe, comfortable, well-maintained and supportive on campus accommodation for students.



2.9 To integrate the accommodation goals with those of the academic programs of the University

2.10 To provide sound management and leadership to operate the student’s accommodation unit in an effective and efficient manner.

2.11 To develop the code of conduct expectations for students in relation to on- campus living.

2.12 To provide and promote international student’s retention activities.



2.13 To provide unique support to the vast population of students staying out of University campus in order for them to be assimilated within the communities they live in.

2.14 To provide pre-departure information and counsel to students preparing to study abroad.



2.15 To ensure provision clean, safe, quiet and efficient facilities for the delivery of food services of all kinds at convenient times for students.

2.16 To provide appropriate assistance and opportunities for students with disabilities so that they can compete equally with their peers in the academic environment.

2.17 To assist students with disabilities in gaining access to all programs, services, and activities sponsored by the University.

2.18 To provide our communities with students who are willing to address social issues through volunteerism.

2.19 To complement a student’s classroom learning by offering practical experiences in which students are able to explore values, career options and their leadership potentials.

2.20 To provide opportunities for students to develop an understanding and appreciation of other cultures



2.21 To design and facilitate leadership training to all sectors of student leaders such as House Committees, Associations, Societies and the Student Representative Council.

2.22 To perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by the Director, Student Affairs.

RENUMERATION

The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.



EMPLOYMENT TYPE

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and two Years’ Contract for Non-Locals
