Partners In Health (PIH) is launching a multi country TB study to generate an evidence on the TB response approach called Research to Enhance Screening Outcomes in Lesotho and Vietnam to End TB (RESOLVE TB). The study will be conducted in Lesotho and Vietnam. The RESOLVE TB study will address knowledge gaps in efforts to search for, treat, and prevent (STP) tuberculosis (TB) and post-TB sequelae by leveraging robust community TB screening programs and partnerships with TB treatment programs in Lesotho and Vietnam. RESOLVE-TB is supported by generous anonymous donors at Partners In Health (PIH) and implemented in collaboration with PIH-Lesotho, Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, FIT (Vietnam), and national TB programs.

The organization further has the N2 Project that focuses on essential investments aimed at improving the safety, functionality, and dignity of PH-supported health facilities to enhance the delivery of quality patient care. The initiative seeks to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and operational systems in alignment with the One Strategic Plan, specifically contributing to Pathway 1: Building Resilient Health Systems. Through these investments, the project aims to create safe, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare environments that support sustainable health outcomes and resilient service delivery.

The organization is therefore seeking suitably qualified and competent candidates to fill the following positions in the RESOLVE and NNP2 Projects:

The WASH Officer will lead Partners in Health-Lesotho’s (PIH-LS) Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) and Health-Care Waste Management (HCWM) initiatives across supported health facilities. The role focuses on improving water supply reliability, sanitation infrastructure functionality, hygiene standards, and environmental health systems in alignment with national policies and PIH standards. The Officer will also provide technical leadership on health care waste management processes, including supporting the Ministry of Health in the safe operation of the newly installed incinerator at the main supported facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices, and environmental health risks across PIHL-supported facilities.
  • Develop and guide implementation of WASH improvement plans, focusing on infrastructure reliability, infection prevention, and continuity of essential services.
  • Collaborate with Ministry of Health (MoH), facility management teams, and engineering partners to ensure proper function and maintenance of WASH systems.
  • Support emergency water and sanitation planning, including outage response and contingency systems.
  • Provide training and technical mentorship to facility teams on WASH standards, IPC-related hygiene practices, and routine monitoring protocols.
  • Lead the design, strengthening, and monitoring of safe waste management systems including segregation, internal transport, temporary storage, and treatment.
  • Offer technical support for operation, maintenance, and safety procedures for operation of incinerator, ensuring environmental compliance and operator safety.
  • Review and update HCWM SOPs to reflect national guidelines and WHO recommendations.
  • Facilitate capacity building for facility waste handlers and managers through training, audits, and targeted coaching.
  • Develop WASH/HCWM indicators and monitoring tools; analyze data for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate in preparing reports, proposals, and documentation for donors, MoH, and internal leadership.
  • Coordinate procurement specifications for WASH and waste-related supplies and services.
  • Ensure integration of WASH activities with broader PIHL programs including IPC, infrastructure, and environmental health.
  • Train health facility staff and community members on hygiene promotion, safe water handling, sanitation practices, waste management practices.
  • Support development of WASH training materials and guidelines.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between PIH-LS, MoH, local government, engineering firms, and community partners.
  • Participate in national WASH and HCWM technical working groups.
  • Support cross-country learning by engaging with PIH global teams and sharing best practices.
  • There will be frequent travel to all PIH supported Lesotho sites, including rural initiative facilities, as well as other responsibilities that may be assigned.
